Rose
Rose happens to be one of the most common perennials used in skincare due to its awakening and mood boosting aroma. Its natural scent is easy to come by in the Natural Beauty industry because it allows beauty brands to ditch the toxic fragrances. However, what most people tend to forget about is its powerful skin properties.
Rose is anti-inflammatory, astringent and antibacterial which makes this ingredient popular amongst people with oily and acne-prone skin types. With high amounts of Vitamin-C and E, rose helps moisturize and soothe while stimulating collagen production.
One way to add rose to your skincare routine is with Anato's Regenerative Elixir - a rose & ylang ylang multifunctional dry-oil. One of my favorite ways to incorporate this elixir into my skincare routine is by mixing it with my facemasks to create an ultra-hydrating at home facial. It's the perfect way to pamper your skin and get a little #selfcare in!
Anti-inflammatory: the property of a substance or treatment that reduces inflammation or swelling.
Astringent: causing the contraction of skin cells and other body tissues. Astringents may help cleanse skin, tighten pores, and dry out oil.
Lavender
Lavender is also a well known perennial and is often found in soothing products due to its relaxing aroma. Lavender has antifungal properties and is known to reduce redness, irritation and inflammation. It is also known to help reduce acne, even skin tone and reduce wrinkles.
Fun fact: Lavender belongs to the mint family!
Thyme
Thyme possesses antibacterial and antifungal properties that work to heal broken skin, reduce acne and calm inflammations. In fact, according to Cosmopolitan, "Scientific American recently revealed that thyme extract may help ward off unsightly pimples better than the toughest form of benzoyl peroxide (an ingredient in most blemish-blasting products)."
Rosemary
Rosemary has anti-inflammatory, astringent and natural antiseptic properties which help protect the skin cells from damage often caused by the sun and free radicals. It is also known to reduce swelling, puffiness, balance and soothe skin. It is popular amongst people with oily or acne prone skin types because it helps maintain balance.
Oregano
Oregano is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and is a natural antiseptic. The perennial is full of antioxidants (aka the hardest working skincare ingredients) like Vitamin E, that help prevent cell damage. One way you can incorporate oregano, rosemary, lavender and thyme into your skincare routine is with Anato's Baume Réparateur.
The Baume Réparateur is a natural moisturizing balm that can be used as a hydrating spot treatment or the ultimate moisturizer. The balm is olive oil infused with the perennials to leave your skin feeling silky and soft.
These 5 perennials were just a few on the list to incorporate into your skincare routine. If you're interested in learning more about perennial beauty, visit Anato’s blog for more info!
