Diving Deep Into Hip & Chick Organik's + Why You Should Be Using There Products

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

Hey there readers! Welcome back ;) Hip & Chick Organik's is an organic bath, body and home line made here in Santa Cruz, California on Pleasure Point. I'm lucky to be able to say I work for this incredible line and that I support everything they stand for. Today, I wanted to share with you why this line of products is so special and why it should not only be in your home, but your loved ones as well!

Hip & Chick Organik's was founded by Vanessa + Maria Neu, an adorable mother-daughter duo who wanted to create a "small-batch, handcrafted bath & body line infused with their favorite organic ingredients". I joined their team in 2018 and today we're diving deep into their products, the ingredients they use and how they can benefit your skin!

Sugar Scrub

I have tried a good 20-30 body scrubs in the last 2 years and I have never found one better than Hip & Chicks. Their sugar scrubs are a blend of pure cane sugar, shea butter, coconut and avocado oil to effortlessly exfoliate and repair the skin. The sugar base is gentle on sensitive skin and will allow you to exfoliate all the dead skin away without scratching or damaging the skins surface. Because of the moisturizing coconut oil and shea butter, this sugar scrub is THE BEST for shaving! The oil and butter work to keep the skin hydrated with a protective layer to avoid razor burns and cuts. Another huge benefit is being able to ditch the chemicals (shaving cream) for an organic line made by amazing women :)

Coffee & Cinnamon Scrub

As you know, I'm a sucker for coffee + skincare...so of course I had to try the Coffee & Cinnamon scrub! This delicious scrub is full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and caffeine to awaken the skin, reduce swelling, fine lines and wrinkles. Because this scrub has so many skin benefits, I enjoy using it once a week on my face as an exfoliating mask. You can do this by gently applying the scrub to damp skin (to allow it to stick) and leaving it on for 10-15 mins. When removing, I use a damp warm washcloth and remove slowly. Any extra residue can be simply rinsed away! If I choose to use the scrub on my body, I follow up with their Sweet Cream body wash to remove any extra residue in the shower.

Candles

I originally wasn't going to talk about Hip & Chicks candles, but I have one lit as I am writing this blog post so while I'm in heaven, thought I would share! Hip & Chicks makes the most scrumptious soy candles and they're available in 14 scents *shook*. My favorite part about them is their long-lasting burn time and their reusable jar...I mean, can it get any better? If you're obsessed with candles like me, checkout their blog post about Candle Care & Maintenance 101 (here).

Favorite scents: Maui Wowie (coconut, pineapple + cilantro), Coffee & Cream (coffee and vanilla, Harvest Moon (the BEST for fall) and Luxe (pink sandalwood blend)

Why Soy?

If you were wondering, soy wax is a renewable and carbon neutral wax. It burns cleaner and for a longer period of time than paraffin wax. More importantly it is safe, natural, and non-toxic.

Ingredient Deep Dive

Now that I talked about the products I love and how I use them, I want to talk a little more about their ingredients and skin benefits. Five key ingredients you can find in Hip & Chick products include:

Coffee:

A natural exfoliant that works to brighten + smooth while using caffeine to tighten and reduce puffiness. Coffee is known to boost circulation, rejuvenate and reduce cellulite. It is a deeper exfoliant compared to sugar.

Granulated Sugar:

Sugar is used to remove dead surface skin cells and is filled with natural glycolic acid, "the holy grail for exfoliation". Glycolic acid works with complexion revealing brighter, fresher skin. It is often used to treat scarring, skin discoloration and fine lines + wrinkles. It is a gentle exfoliant and more hydrating than a salt based scrub.

Shea Butter:

Shea butter is FULL of vitamin A which produces cells and vitamin E that protects the skin from free radicals (unstable atoms that damage cells, causing illness and aging). Shea butter is also known for boosting collagen (reduces wrinkles + dryness) and can reduce the appearance of cellulite while using it's moisturizing properties.

Coconut Oil:

Coconut oil has been hyped up in the beauty industry, but it has also had it's fair share of hate. A lot of people are not aware of the different fat levels and kinds of coconut oil. This has led to controversy over using it in your skincare routine which is shame because this ingredient has a numerous skin benefits! With that being said, if you're going to buy coconut oil yourself, make sure you purchase organic, unrefined coconut oil which is rich in many proteins that keep the skin glowing and rejuvenated. Coconut oil is also great for anti-aging, wrinkle reducing and skin hydration.

Avocado Oil:

Avocado oil is rich in vitamin E and contains fatty acids that build healthy cell membranes, sterolin and phytosterols. These will repair and relieve dry skin. Avocado oil is different from the oils because it digs deeper and helps build the natural oil barrier to lock in moisture!

These were just a few of their products and ingredients. If you're in the area, we would love for you to stop by our shop and let us show you around! You can find Hip & Chicks at 745 41st Ave, Santa Cruz CA.
